Bermondsey Summers follows the fates of individuals and families in Southwark who were caught in the crossfire of political events in the Bermondsey.

Revolution of 1911, when 14,000 women came out on strike and won their fight for higher wages and better conditions in the confectionery, biscuit, and food factories.

People’s Company portrays the feverish political action of pre-First World War Bermondsey, as the summer heat rises to 80 F and the determination of the women to win soars with it. The boisterous women strikers may be unsure of their exact demands, but their spirits are high, and they are sure of success as they sing the songs of the strike and call to the audience to join in with their confident cry: “Are we downhearted?” Their reply: “No".
